FRIENDS OF THE HOMER LIBRARY


Our mission is to provide support for the Homer Public Library programs and services,

to raise funds that enrich the library experience, and to promote the use and enjoyment of the library.


Do you love spending time at the library? There are so many ways to be involved!

The Friends of the Homer Library depends on dozen of volunteers who help support monthly programs, book sales, and special programs like our Bookmobile BOB (Books on Board), Tech Help, and more. 


Event Support

Time commitment: as needed, 2 to 4 hours

When: various times

Description: The Friends of the Homer Public Library hosts several events and fundraisers throughout the year that depend on volunteer support.

Such events include:

  • ·Celebration of Lifelong Learning fundraiser – (held in April)
  • · The spring and fall Book Sales – (held in April and October)
  •  Special events such as Author Readings, panel discussions, Lunch with a Councilmember, and other learning opportunities.


Flyer distributors

Time commitment: 1 hour each week as needed

When: Mondays are typically good. However, needs change.

Description: We need help getting our event signs up at locations around town. If you regularly go to several places each week and could put up a few signs on your way, let us know.


Summer Reading Program

Time commitment: As needed

When: Starting in June and running to the first week in August.

Description: The Summer Reading Program has many volunteer opportunities, helping with weekly events as well as helping with the end of the summer Ice Cream Celebration. Volunteers can work as much or as little as fits into their summer schedule.


Reading Between The Lines

Time commitment: 1-2 hours per month or less

When: Flexible time schedule

Description: Friends volunteers record KBBI’s Reading Between the Lines book review programs, which air at 9:35am on Sunday. Volunteers can record their readings any time during the month at KBBI.


Board member

Time commitment: 5-10 hours per month

When: Board meets the first Wednesday of each month, but time commitments vary.

BOB the Bookmobile     

Do you have fond memories of a bookmobile from your hometown? Do you want to be part of the magic for kids and families? Come join the bookmobile crew!

Time Commitment: As needed—more in the summer months.

When: During the summer and fall. 

Description: We have a variety of jobs that we need help with. For each bookmobile visit, we need at least a driver and a ride-a-long. We also need help maintaining the shelves…adding, sorting, and tidying books. If you delight in seeing kids find just the right book, come and join us!
