Think you have what it takes to pit your word-wielding skills against your peers? The FHL Fifth Annual Scrabble Tournament is just the place. This year’s tournament will be held on Sunday, March 14 with registration starting at 9 a.m. and play starting at 10 a.m. at Land’s End Resort.
The Scrabble Tournament is set up into three divisions. Division I is for upper level players who have a high level of scrabble skills and who are used to playing 50 minute timed games. Official tournament rules will be adhered to. This will be a round-robin and King of the Hill event. A cash prize will be awarded to the top two finishers in this category.
Division II is for intermediate level players and is played in a round-robin style. A prize will be awarded to the first and second place winners. Division II is a closed-book event but one free lookup will be allowed per game. A 3-minute time limit per play is in place, and a 90-minute time limit for games overall. Sand timers will be used.
A third division is also open to people wishing to play drop-in games.
Registration prior to the day of the event is encouraged either online at the Friends of the Homer Library’s Web site at www.friendshomerlibrary.org or at the library. Registration costs are $40 for Division I games, $25 for Division II play, and $15 for Division III play for the day.
