2nd Annual Homer International Film Festival for Children February 17- March 10, 2007 at the Homer Theatre and the Homer Public Library CONGRATULATIONS TO CLINTON EDMINSTER, Homer filmmaker, who won the audience choice award in the Alaska-made short category chosen on March 10th! Film Reviews for each week's films featuring the voices of local kids were coordinated by the Homer Council on the Arts. Additional thanks goes out to John Morrison of the CA Film Institute, Robert Walsh of Ridge Top Studios, the Homer Public Library staff and the Homer Theatre staff. Festival Objectives: -to present quality, family films from around the world on the “big screen.” Films are selected on the basis of quality, originality and age appropriateness (5-7 and 8 and above). -to encourage the production of diverse, interesting, thought-provoking, films for children. -to promote the importance of media literacy and teach critical film viewing skills to young people and their families. Through the festival, we hope to provide Alaska’s youth an opportunity to explore international cinema and the diverse experiences and views international films for children can present. We also wish to encourage diversity in the arts and encourage filmmakers (both local and international) to produce quality films for young people by providing a venue for their work. 2007 Festival schedule: February 17- Winky's Horse from the February 20- Pettson and Findus: the Tomte Machine from the UK & Sweden.
