Celebration of Lifelong Learning is an annual social event for

Friends of the Homer Library

that honors an adult and a student member of our community

who prioritize learning and have a passion for sharing their knowledge with others.

The 2022 Lifelong Learner Award goes toDonna Rae Faulkner and Don McNamera

As a lifelong learning team, Donna Rae and Don specialize in gardening and farming systems that feed the Homer area. Donna Rae’s experience as a teacher, facilitator, and counselor and Don’s knowledge of home design and his expertise in weatherization, combined with their shared love of farming, led them to their first high tunnel in 2010. Today, their vibrant Oceanside Farms site continues to expand, just like Donna Rae and Don’s continual quest for innovative and productive methods. They have generously shared their growing knowledge with others, increasing the bounty throughout the community.

The 2022 Youth Learner Award goes to Neviya Reed, a Homer High School Senior, excels in the humanities through her participation in Student Government and several AP-level civics classes. Neviya takes on leadership roles near and far. As a Region III Representative for the Alaska Association of Student Government, she represents her peers and works with students across Southcentral Alaska. Neviya also serves on the KPBSD Board of Education, offering a valuable student perspective. Though drawn to humanities, Neviya embraces new experiences and challenges with a smile and an open mind, inspiring others to learn alongside her.

The 2022 Library Spirit Award goes to Olivia Glasman, a Homer High School Senior, was essentially raised in the Homer Public Library. From a young age, she took on leadership roles as she helped plan and implement youth programs, with a particular passion for American Sign Language and STEM activities.
