Construction on the new Homer Library building began in May of 2005 and is finished! (these photos were taken in July 2006). 

The move of the library and the grand opening which took place on Sept. 16th were made possible thanks to a huge team of enthusiastic volunteers and the support of the City of Homer, Great North Beverages and Loopy Lupine, Homer Boatyard, Small Potatoes Lumber, Fat Olive's and the Cosmic Kitchen!

The Grand Opening festivities continue!

The Homer Public Library and the Friends of the Homer Public Library announce the following Grand Opening celebration schedule:

 

through Nov 16th:      The United States Postal Service honored the new Homer Public Library with a special Commemorative cancellation stamp featuring the New Homer Library Project’s “Just Imagine” logo by Homer artist Suse Phillips Cushing.  Collectors have until November 16th to send an addressed envelope along with a SASE to the Homer Post Office to receive the cancellation stamp for their collections.  Contact the Homer Post Office for more details.

 

                                    The new Homer Public Library is now open for regular hours (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 10am-6pm and Tuesday and Thursday 10am-8pm) at 500 Hazel Ave.  All regular services resume.

Sept. 20th:                   “Works in Progress” reading sponsored by the Friends of the Homer Public Library featuring new works by local Homer authors Rich Chiappone, Nancy Lord, Eva Saulitus, Miranda Weiss, Michael Armstrong, and Jim Rearden. 7-9pm at the new Homer Public Library. FREE.

 

Sept. 28th:                   “Finding Your Roots: Researching Genealogy at the National Archives” with National Archives-Anchorage office Director,Tom Wiltsey. Sponsored by the Friends of the Homer Public Library.  10am-12pm at the new Homer Public Library, conference room. FREE.

 

October 3rd:                 “Singing Through History” a folk music program for kids with Adam Miller, visiting folk musician from California.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Homer Public Library. 3:30pm at the new Homer Public Library,Joy Griffin Children’s Library.  FREE.
