Architectural rendering of the new Homer Public Library building

The New Homer Public Library opened on September 16, 2006!  Come see what see what it has to offer at the corner of Heath and Hazel!

The Homer community has long been in need of a larger community library building and the increased resources and services such a facility will provide. A citizens group led by the Library Advisory Board and Friends of the Homer Public Library initiated a capital campaign in 2002 to raise the necessary funds from both private and public sources, calling the effort the New Library Project.

A community’s library is a window on the community itself, reflecting the values it places on education, literacy, and an informed and engaged public. Homer’s current library neither meets the needs of Homer’s citizenry nor reflects the image it has of itself as home to an educated, talented, and civically active populace.

In Homer, which prides itself on being a smart and creative town, we share in the excitement and the possibilities that a new, larger library can provide. We look forward to the completion of the new public library, a community resource that will truly reflect our educational and civic values and offer both basic and innovative services for many years to come.
