Library remembers Renda Horn

Renda Horn was one of those people who is hard to forget — high-energy, joyful and determined — so Homer was rocked in July to hear of her death in a plane crash in the Yukon Territory.
While Renda earned a certain distinction for being one of three women to don bee antennae and sing at the opening ceremony for the library, she was also an ardent and longtime supporter of the library and its capital campaign. She and her husband, Steve, were lead donors to the capital campaign, but her passion for the library didn’t stop once the building was built.
Only weeks before her death, Renda discussed with Friends of the Library staff ways to improve the facility’s book collection. Following her passing, several organizations and individuals who knew of her commitment to the library made donations in her memory, which will be designated for the library’s children’s book collection.
Books purchased with these donations will be marked with memorial bookplates. As a result of these donations, the Friends is creating a program through which others can make similar donations in honor of loved ones.
“It is a privilege for the Friends of the Homer Library to be able to honor Renda,” said Friends coordinator Carey James. “She will always be remembered as one of the passionate people who made our new public library happen.”
