FHL is lead by a volunteer board of directors consisting of 9 community members including the Homer Public Library’s director. Each member of the board of directors serves for a three year term. Each April, directors are elected on a staggered schedule at the Annual meeting along with the board's officers which are elected annually. Each member joined the Sue Mauger (current FHL president)- Some of my strongest childhood memories include discovering the joy of reading books, going to the town library to find new treasures and dreaming of being a writer one day. Good books have been important in my life and have inspired me to search for new adventures and great places. I am proud to be on the FHL Board working with an amazing group of volunteers who are committed to creating a community space that will bring the joy of books to all ages and provide room for exploration and dreaming. Cleo Webb -"...the reason I got involved with the Friends of the library was because my friend Joy Griffin introduced me to the Friends and I was hooked. I have a love for libraries and reading and I felt this was a way for me to help promote our Homer Public Library.” Elaine Burgess (current FHL secretary) - "The library is such a valuable resource here in Homer. I found I had some time to devote to volunteer work and I wanted to use it wisely. I chose working on the FHL Board to help serve my community." Kelly Thompson
Helen Hill (Homer Library director)- "Words can't begin to describe how much FHL does for the Homer Public Library. I appreciate our Friends volunteers so much, and find that the more communication and coordination we have between the library and the Friends, the better our programs and services are for the community. My participation on the FHL Board helps to cement the partnership between FHL and the library. I learn so much from our FHL volunteers about how the community benefits and uses our public library, and in turn, FHL learns more about ways to support the library. It is only through the support of FHL that our library is where it is today. FHL has given the community a great gift: a bright future for the Homer Public Library."
2 board positions are vacant at this time. For more information on becoming an FHL board volunteer, please contact FHL at info@friendshomerlibrary.org or call (907) 235-3180 x4217 |
